Most homeowner insurance policies do not cover collectibles for more than $5000 and in the case of a loss, many collectors find themselves fighting with their insurance companies who instead offer replacement values on “like” items.

For example, if you have a vintage Darth Vader figure MOC valued at, say, $500, in the case of a loss your insurance company will likely offer you the replacement value on a Darth Vader than can currently be purchased at retail for $10. This is why it’s very important for collectors with collections valued at $5000+ to have a specific collectibles insurance policy.

To obtain such insurance, your collection must be appraised by an accredited appraiser and unfortunately, most general appraisers do not have the specific, niche knowledge required for properly evaluating collections of this type. This is where Shane’s service comes in.
